Express one quantity as a percentage of another

Express one quantity as a percentage of another. Choose number problems, word problems, shape problems, or all three.

Comparing fractions, decimals and percentages

Compare fractions with other fractions, decimals or percentages, or with any combination of the three.

Add and subtract fractions with different denominators. A visual tool to help children to understand how to find a common denominator and then add or subtract fractions.

Dominoes: Match Fractions, Decimals and Percentages

Match the fractions, decimals and percentages.

This game, along with the 5 other domino games from this website, is available on android devices as part of the 'Domino Maths' App.

Simplify Fractions - Crystal Crash

Shoot the fraction in its simplest form.

This game, together with all the other crystal crash games, is available as a single iPad and Android app.

Thinking of a Number

Use inverse operations to work backwards and find a missing number.

Fractions of Numbers

Use a fraction bar to help children to visualise fractions of numbers. Use division facts to find a unit fraction and then scale up. Levels include finding fractions of decimals.

Crystal Crash - Fractions of Numbers

This game, together with all the other crystal crash games, is available as a single iPad or Android app.

Choose from the following levels:

 1) 1/2 of numbers up to 20 (whole answers) 5) unit fractions of up to 100 (whole answers) 9) harder multi-part fraction of up to 100 (e.g. 4/7 of 49) 2) 1/2 of numbers up to 40 (whole answers) 6) 1/10 of multiples of 10 (e.g. 1/10 of 60) 10) 1/10 of numbers up to 100 (inc. decimal answers) 3) 1/2 of numbers up to 100 (whole answers) 7) multiples of 1/10 of multiples of 10 (e.g. 3/10 of 80) 11) multiples of 1/10 of up to 100 (inc. decimal answers) 4) 1/4 of numbers up to 100 (whole answers) 8) simple multi-part fractions of up to 100 (e.g. 3/5 of 25) 12) unit fractions of up to 20 (inc. decimal answers)
Fractions of Unknown Numbers

Find a number when given a fraction of that number. A visual tool to help children see how to first find a unit fraction of an unknown number, and then scale this unit fraction up to find the whole number.

Percentages of Numbers

Find percentages of numbers and money using the visual representation of a fraction bar.

Using a Calculator - Finding Change

Answer a variety of 2 step word problems using a calculator. Whatever is input into the calculator is then recorded and displayed, so children can see all the steps that have been taken. This makes it a great tool for demonstrating calculator skills on a whiteboard. It can also be really useful for children to practice independently, as they can trace and correct any mistakes they make.

Use a calculator to find fractions of numbers

Use a calculator to find fractions of numbers and then round to the nearest whole number or to 1 decimal place.

Use brackets to order operations

Use a calculator to carry out calculations with more than one step using brackets and the memory.

Ratio and Scaling Numbers Word Problems

Designed to help children to visualise the relationships between numbers when answering word problems involving ratio and scaling quantities. Children should see that sometimes it is easier to scale numbers in one 'direction' than the other, and that they can choose the most efficient method.

This game is now part of the 'Calculations' collection, which includes the following 17 games and resources: Column Addition, Expanded Addition, Expanded Addition - Place Value Counters, Number Bonds(2), Addition - Digit Drag, Missing Symbols, Column Subtraction, Column Subtraction using Place Value Counters, Counting on to find difference on a beadstring, Multiplication Grid Method, Multiplication Written Method, Ratio and Scaling Numbers, Representing Multiplication, Division by Chunking Up, Division by Chunking Down, Formal Written Division - Round Up or Down?, Short Division Writen Formal Method.

Click on 'Multiplication' and then 'Ratio and Scaling Numbers'.

The Calculations app is available on Google Play and the App Store.

2 step problems pie charts

Solve a variety of 2 step problems by interpreting data from a pie chart.

Interpret Pie Charts

Answer word problems by interpreting a pie chart. Click on the '?' to view the angle of a segment

Drag the digits to add decimal numbers and make a given total.

Fractions Shape Sequences

Recognise and continue the sequences involving fractions, shapes and colours. Lots of control over level including unit fractions and improper fractions. Extend children by choosing harder levels which require extending the sequence by finding general rules.

Match Fractions Decimals and Percentages

Match the equivalent fractions, decimals and percentages. Alternatively, you can choose to convert between just fractions and decimals, or between fractions and percentages or decimals and percentages. Diagrams to show equivalence can be turned on or off.

Balancing Sums

An excellent tool for reinforcing an understanding of the role of the equals sign. Choose one objective, or many. You can choose all the objectives for a single year group (or multiple year groups). You can also choose to balance between different types of calculations (eg addition and multiplication).

Balancing scales - convert between g and kg

The scale is loaded with between 1 and 4 weights. The user then has to balance the scales, converting between g and kg in the process. There is a great deal of control over the level.

A great starter to explore addition, subtraction / difference and partitioning as well as the relationship between grams and kilograms. Levels include converting whole kg to g (and vice versa), converting fractions of kg (eg 1/4kg = 250g) and weights in kg to 1 and 2 decimal places.

Solve 2 Step Money Problems

Read and interpret a word problem. Calulate the cost of 2 items and then find change from a given amount.

** February 2013 - I have added a new game in which you solve 2 step money problems using a calculator **

Placing Calculations on a Number Line

Place the answer to calculations on a number line. An enormous array of choice. Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Ranging from adding numbers to 10 to multiplying 4 digit numbers. Great for combining teaching calculations and approximations with developing an understanding of place value.

Balance scales - add, move or remove a weight

Balance the scales by adding, moving or removing a weight. A great mental starter to develop addition and subtraction skills.

Balancing Scales g and kg

Add weights to either pan until they are balanced. Can be used to teach addition, subtraction, partitioning, and mass, as well as developing an understanding of the equals sign.

Choose from grams, whole kilograms or kilograms with either 1 or 2 decimal places.
