# Fractions Decimals and Percentages

Interactive maths games to teach fractions, decimals and percentages.

Description Description
Convert Improper Fractions to Mixed Numbers

Provides a visual representation to help children see the relationship between improper fractions and mixed numbers. The link with multiplication and division is made using a number line.

VIEW
Express one quantity as a percentage of another

Express one quantity as a percentage of another. Choose number problems, word problems, shape problems, or all three.

VIEW
Place Decimals on a Number Line

Position the decimals (and whole numbers) on a number line. Choose one or more levels at a time and see who can score the most points. This game is also available as an iPad app.

VIEW
Use a calculator to find fractions of numbers

Use a calculator to find fractions of numbers and then round to the nearest whole number or to 1 decimal place.

VIEW
Percentages of Numbers

Find percentages of numbers and money using the visual representation of a fraction bar.

VIEW
Fractions of Numbers

Use a fraction bar to help children to visualise fractions of numbers. Use division facts to find a unit fraction and then scale up. Levels include finding fractions of decimals.

VIEW
Fractions of Unknown Numbers

Find a number when given a fraction of that number. A visual tool to help children see how to first find a unit fraction of an unknown number, and then scale this unit fraction up to find the whole number.

VIEW
Fractions of Amounts

Click on the squares to shade the given fraction of the shape. The shape will then transform to show the equivalent fraction.

VIEW
Order fractions decimals and percentages

Order fractions, decimals or percentages, or any combination of the three.

VIEW
Balancing Decimal Calculations

Find the missing number to balance the decimal calculations. Levels include finding the sums and differences of decimal, U.t xU and multiplying and dividing decimals by 10, 100 or 1000. Choose a range of different objectives and they will be 'balanced' against each other.

VIEW
Decimal Place Value Digit Drag

Drag the digits to make the decimal closest in value to a given number.

VIEW
Comparing fractions, decimals and percentages

Compare fractions with other fractions, decimals or percentages, or with any combination of the three.

VIEW
Equivalent Fractions

Drag the digit card to make the equivalent fraction.

VIEW
Fractions Shape Sequences

Recognise and continue the sequences involving fractions, shapes and colours. Lots of control over level including unit fractions and improper fractions. Extend children by choosing harder levels which require extending the sequence by finding general rules.

VIEW

Drag the digits to add decimal numbers and make a given total.

VIEW
Match Fractions Decimals and Percentages

Match the equivalent fractions, decimals and percentages. Alternatively, you can choose to convert between just fractions and decimals, or between fractions and percentages or decimals and percentages. Diagrams to show equivalence can be turned on or off.

VIEW
Balancing scales - convert between g and kg

The scale is loaded with between 1 and 4 weights. The user then has to balance the scales, converting between g and kg in the process. There is a great deal of control over the level.

A great starter to explore addition, subtraction / difference and partitioning as well as the relationship between grams and kilograms. Levels include converting whole kg to g (and vice versa), converting fractions of kg (eg 1/4kg = 250g) and weights in kg to 1 and 2 decimal places.

VIEW
Placing Fractions and Decimals on a Number Line

Place fractions and decimals on a number line. A wide choice of levels including proper fractions, improper fractions and mixed numbers.

VIEW
Sequences Fractions and Decimals

Count on and back in decimal steps and fractions.

VIEW
Beat the clock - Fractions

Convert between proper fractions and decimals, improper fractions and decimals and improper fractions and equivalent mixed numbers.

VIEW

Estimate the decimal value being pointed to on varying scales.

VIEW
Comparing Fractions & Decimals

Compare fractions with differing denominators, and compare fractions with decimals. A wide choice of levels. Use a fraction wall to help compare.

VIEW
Multiply and Divide by 10, 100 and 1000 (2)

Decide which function has been applied to a number. Reinforces the effects of multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000.

VIEW
Partitioning (3)

Find 5 ways to partition the same number. Choice of whole numbers and decimals.

VIEW
Number Bonds

October 2012: New game added in which number bonds are represented visually using base-ten blocks and a number line.

Find pairs of numbers with a given total. Play against the clock.

VIEW
Card Game - Matching Pairs

Match the pairs of cards with the same value. A great game to play as a mental starter. Over 50 levels to play including; addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, matching fractions and decimals and converting between measurements.

VIEW
Partitioning (1)

Partition numbers into their simplest forms. Choice of whole numbers and decimals.

VIEW
Partitioning (2)

Partition numbers in different ways. Choice of whole numbers and decimals.

ITP Fractions

View full screen in your browser.  This ITP allows you to divide a green strip into a number of equal parts and colour the individual parts in yellow. You can label the strip to show what proportion the coloured yellow parts are of the whole strip. This can be shown as a vulgar fraction, decimal (to 3 decimal places) or percentage. The ratio of yellow to green can also be displayed. You can create more then one strip and drag these up and down the screen to compare strips.
The ITP can be used to explore equivalence between fractions, decimals and percentages and the different representations of the same relative quantities. The equal parts on the strips can also be used to demonstrate how to calculate fractions and percentages of given amounts and to represent a horizontal bar chart. The ITP can be used to set up and solve ratio and proportion problems.

ITP Moving Digits

View full screen in your browser.  This ITP allows you to demonstrate the effect of multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100. By dragging cards from the set of digit cards, different decimal numbers can be displayed. These decimal numbers can be placed in either of the two middle rows. The cards in the first row move when the multiply or divide buttons are selected. The cards will not move if the result is greater than 99 999 or less than 0.01. The cards in the second row do not move in order to highlight the shift in the digits when multiplying or dividing.
The ITP can be used to explore, and to encourage children to predict the effect of multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100. The ITP can also be used to demonstrate the effect of repeated multiplication and division by 10.
