3.OA.8. Solve two-step word problems using the four operations. Represent these problems using equations with a letter standing for the unknown quantity. Assess the reasonableness of answers using mental computation and estimation strategies including rou
An excellent tool for reinforcing an understanding of the role of the equals sign. Choose one objective, or many. You can choose all the objectives for a single year group (or multiple year groups). You can also choose to balance between different types of calculations (eg addition and multiplication).

Read the scales on the measuring cylinder and answer word problems involving addition and subtraction. Play against the clock for points.
|Using a Calculator - Finding Change||
Answer a variety of 2 step word problems using a calculator. Whatever is input into the calculator is then recorded and displayed, so children can see all the steps that have been taken. This makes it a great tool for demonstrating calculator skills on a whiteboard. It can also be really useful for children to practice independently, as they can trace and correct any mistakes they make.

|Placing Calculations on a Number Line||
Place the answer to calculations on a number line. An enormous array of choice. Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Ranging from adding numbers to 10 to multiplying 4 digit numbers. Great for combining teaching calculations and approximations with developing an understanding of place value.
|Balance scales - add, move or remove a weight||
Balance the scales by adding, moving or removing a weight. A great mental starter to develop addition and subtraction skills.
|Balancing Scales g and kg||
Add weights to either pan until they are balanced. Can be used to teach addition, subtraction, partitioning, and mass, as well as developing an understanding of the equals sign.
